Catalina Island
Two Harbors- Catalina Harbor and Isthmus Cove
Two Harbors is a quiet little place. When we first arrived it appeared to be a wet red mud kind of place
with little going on. We were not impressed.
In the middle of the night we were startled awake by loud snorts. Yikes! What was THAT! Seals, did
you know seals sneeze? Since the hulls of the boat act like a drum, seal sneezes are a force to be
reckoned with.
In the morning, a walk across the island brought a starling surprise. We had apparently moved to the
Mediterranean. High cliffs covered in cactus and dry desert plants tower over sapphire blue and
turquoise green water. Sailboats are tucked up into snug little coves. Nice.
Some other visitors told us about a nice, little walk that had some good views. Sweet. We walk, and
walk oh yes, and we go up, and up, gasp and up. Pant, Pant - um, oh wow. We wound up on a high
point overlooking all of Two harbors. King an queen of all we survey. Its the kind of view that makes
your breathe catch in the back of your throat. You think, can there really be something this beautiful?
Isn't it nice that the answer is yes?
On the way back to the boat, the dingy was riding on a stream of green stars. The phosphorescence
in the water was called to action by our wake - a stream of green fireworks in an otherwise black sea.

There are really no big stories this time around. I suppose that's the point. Sometimes the biggest
story is the smallest. You know, the tiny things that often go overlooked. That's what this lifestyle is
about - allowing us room to see the small - yet big.
